POETRY, cont.— alliteration, assonance, and consonance. Understand poetic rules before bending them! More poetry is rejected than any thing else. Don't rhyme for rhyme's sake. It waters down your message coming across contrived and stilted. Avoid overuse of fill words to maintain rhythm. • COOK'S CORNER – Recipes plus fun stories on why you make these dishes. Up to 3 recipes per issue. Must be tasty, easy to prepare, and not break the budget. Main Dishes, Salads, Vegetable Variations, Stews and Soups, Casseroles, and Desserts of all kinds. If of health benefit, explain. Use a catchy name for your culinary contribution. Cite the food/ dish category it fits (meat, etc.). Include an amusing story, by all means, but keep that segment to 200 words which accompanies the recipe itself. Use standard measurement abbreviations: C. for cup; Tbs. - Tablespoon; tsp. - teaspoon. If a small photo of the finished dish is available - send with your submission in ".jpg" or ".gif" format. Small extra payment for up to 3 photos.TIP: Providing nutritional analysis helps boost acceptance. • HEART-STIRRING REVIEWS – Reviews of new Books, Music, and Movies. Fiction or Nonfiction, Gift books OK. Word Limit: 350-700. Include cover art in "JPG" format, if available, or tell where it can be found. Cite title, author, publisher, ISBN, publishing date, is it hard back or paperback, CD, DVD, etc. Also tell briefly your own likes and dislikes. Up to 3 per issue. This is NOT a column, but a mix of tastes and opinion for our readers. • WINNING HEARTS – Have you seen a unique, effective way to reach the world with the good news of Jesus? Has an outreach impacted your community? Tell us about it. Can others benefit from the way this outreach worked? How? Be creative, detailed, and informative. Give specific examples, highlight the key person(s) involved, illustrate the positives that resulted. One or two per issue. Limit of 750 words. |
